Vintage Circus Horses and Rider on Et Vous Denim Jacket

The inspiration ~ Check out this circus horse rider. Isn't she cool?? She is straddling two horses. I didn't see it at first.....I found this image at The Graphics Fairy.

The embroidery ~ I found THE COOLEST denim jacket at a garage sale last weekend. It was made in France and I honestly cannot tell from what decade this jacket is from. I have never seen anything quite like it.
That garage sale had new, still tagged clothing from the 60's right on through the 90's. This jacket, however, was used.

Check out the bottom of the jacket, it mimics a pair of jeans. Cool, right?

I traced the image on to a piece of freezer paper then ironed it on to the jacket. I did the embroidery directly on to the paper. I don't recommend this method and I likely won't do it again. It is a BITCH to get all of those little pieces of paper back out. And to think, I thought I was so clever when I started it.....
Anyway, here is my girl and her horses all stitched on.

I'm torn....I love how fine this embroidery looks except that I am worried that it is too delicate for this heavy jacket. I am wishing I had done a split or a chain stitch. I think the girl looks too delicate but I am really, really loving the horses.....What do you all think? Should I go over the whole thing with a heavier looking stitch?

See? Even the tag is in french. Tr├Ęs cool, non? I don't know why they have a picture of Abe on there, though.

  2. I would bet this was 1980s. That was the fashion in Europe at the time, late 80s or even early 90s. The embroidery looks great.

  3. My sister had a similar jacket in the late 80's, early 90's. I love how the embroidery turned out. Great job. :)
